1st Grade: LIPOGRAMS:
This week the students completed their last lipogram. They chose the letter O to create it. We were stuck on replacing the word narrator and after lots of brainstorming they came up with the word reader.
Then, the students were introduced to the word pangram - a sentence created with all the letters of the alphabet. Each student took some time to create their own pangram and share them with the class. To wrap up the lesson, the students completed the homework to our lesson in class.
We had some KaHoot fun with the remaining time left on Tuesday.
We will begin a new lesson after break.

2nd Grade: PREDICTIONS:
(We had so much photo booth fun - I forgot to take regular pictures this week)

This week we continued exploring predictions. First, some students shared their ideas of what might happen in chapter 2. Then, we read chapter 2. We stopped here for the students to continue their paragraph writing skills and write their own predictions. As a class, we came up with a topic sentence to help us get started. Then, the students were asked to fill in details with predictions of what might happen next. We also introduced the idea of text evidence to support your prediction. The third detail was supposed to be their text evidence to tell the reader why they came up with their predictions. Then, they began to turn their hamburger structure into a paragraph.
These predictions will be great reminders after break when we continue our journey with the story.

3rd Grade: T-CHART COMPARISON:
This week the students were introduced to two picture book biographies on Jane Goodall.
Then, I shared with them a T-chart to help them compare different areas of the books. The evidence they collected in the T-Chart was their support to help them share which book was their favorite and why. I asked them to think about how they could persuade their teacher to read their favorite book using the information they recorded in the T-chart.
We will complete a wrap-up activity to Jane Goodall after break.

4th Grade: DOUBLE TIMELINE:
This week the students continued their journey on their double timeline. They completed most of the details from our two resources we utilized. We then had to turn to other sources to find some missing information. This was a great time to introduce the students to making sure we look for credible sources on the internet when looking for research.
We will wrap up our double timelines when we return from break.

1st Grade: ENRICHMENT:
We took some time this week to complete an enrichment activity. We worked through several packets that allowed us to review and introduce several different topics in mini units to the students.
After break, we will wrap up area.

2nd Grade: Enrichment:
This week we used our time as a review of the past and a preview of the future. The students played two rounds of KaHoot - which they were familiar with from last year. Our first game was a review of symmetry and transformations. Our second game was all about 2D shapes as a hint of what we will study after break.
We will begin our next chapter after break.

3rd Grade: PATTERNS IN OUR CHARTS:
This week we continued discussing what we found similar with the patterns in our multiples. We continued to complete the worksheet that had us compare the patterns on our 100's charts. They continued to do a great job explaining the different patterns they see with our multiples.
We will move onto a new lesson next week.

4th Grade: THINK DEEPLY:
It was time to wrap up our lesson with our Think Deeply. Our think deeply was presented as a game. The students would have to create a set of directions using transformations to move a dog from one area on a page to another. They had a requirement were they had to use all of our transformations at least once and the dog must start and end in the same position. They also had to create an answer sheet to their directions - this was a perfect opportunity to check their work as they followed their own directions. Then, it was time for the ultimate challenge - a friend would complete the game following only their written directions. They could not speak to clarify anything they wrote. We had SUCCESS - their directions allowed a partner to follow their directions perfectly!
We will start a new lesson after break.
